Understand the Bailout
The events taking place in the financial market offer an illustration of the soundness of the Austrian theory of money, banking, and credit cycles, and Mises.org is your source not only for analysis of these events but also the economic theory that helps explain what is happening and what to do about it. There are many thousands of articles available, and also the full text of thousands of books as well as journal articles. It is impossible to draw attention to the full range of literature one can use to understand the crisis.
However, below we offer a brief look into the topics most discussed in these times, with extended treatments of each in the sidebar. Mises.org also offers both a blog and a community forum for reading and discussing them all.
It's never been more important to spread a sound view of money and banking, not only as a protection against the fallacies of "stabilization" and "reflation" but also as way to see what kind of reforms are essential now.

It's the Derivatives, Stupid! Why Fannie, Freddie and AIG Had to Be Bailed Out
"The answer may have less to do with saving the insurance business, the housing market, or the Chinese investors clamoring for a bailout than with the greatest Ponzi scheme in history, one that is holding up the entire private global banking system. What had to be saved at all costs was not housing or the dollar but the financial derivatives industry; and the precipice from which it had to be saved was an "event of default" that could have collapsed a quadrillion dollar derivatives bubble, a collapse that could take the entire global banking system down with it. Top 10 Reasons Not To Vote for McCain
Don Feder, Coldsteel Caucus Report
I just got back from the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., where conservatives began lining up behind a man who’s been sticking it to us for years. By a process of self-hypnosis, many have managed to convince themselves that McCain is actually one of us.
Not for nothing did Benjamin Disraeli call conservatives the stupid party.
What part of John McCain do we not get? McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Feingold, McCain-Lieberman, McCain-Edwards -- among other socialist, anti-speech, open-borders, enviro-Marxist measures he’s co-sponsored with the hardcore left of the Democratic Party over the years.
If Il Duce had served with him in the United States Senate, there would be McCain-Mussolini.
The moment Mitt Romney “suspended” his campaign and McCain became inevitable, the squawking began: “You mean you’d actually prefer Hillary or Obama (judges)? At least McCain is pro-life (judges). He’s a war hero who’ll ably lead us in the War on Terrorism (judges). Did we mention that he’ll appoint conservative judges?”
Before the chorus of amnesiac Chicken Littles drowns out the voices of reason, here are 10 reasons why conservatives should sever their right hands at the wrist before they pull the McCain lever in November...
1. Immigration – He’s not just pro-open borders, he’s Senor Amnesty – co-sponsor of McCain-Kennedy, which would have legalized 15 million illegal aliens, allowed them to bring in tens of millions of their mooching relatives (including the elderly and infirm), given them credit for past Social Security contributions, etc. The Heritage Foundation’s Robert Rector said McCain-Kennedy would have constituted the largest expansion of the welfare state in U.S. history (at an estimated cost of $2.6 trillion). A Republican who served with McNasty in the Senate said he was forever haranguing his GOP colleagues about being perceived as “xenophobes” for not supporting amnesty. At CPAC, he told conservatives he’s heard us. He’ll secure the borders first, then push amnesty – which, of course, will negate anything he does at the border. Build it (a suicidal welfare state that embraces alien intruders), and a fence won’t keep them out.
2. Multiculturalism – If his advocacy of open borders wasn’t enough, McCain has also opposed official English and supported bi-lingual education (two more issues where he’s out-of-step with the overwhelming majority of his countrymen). McCain even voted for an amendment that would have codified Clinton’s Executive Order 13166, requiring recipients of federal funding, like hospitals, to provide translation services in any language requested. (When it comes to pandering, cost is no object.) No wonder he’s a hero to LULAC (the separatist League of United Latin American Citizens), Geraldo Rivera and Juan Hernandez (his Hispanic outreach director, who says he’d like 7th. generation Mexican-Americans to think of themselves as Mexicans first). Look for President McCain to make Cinco de Mayo a national holiday, give his inaugural address in Arabic and light an annual Kwanza whatever on the White House lawn.
3. Enviro-Marxism – McCain’s supporters think he’s just the man to lead America in the War on Terrorism. What’s the principal weapon of terrorist states? Oil. What does McCain want to keep America from producing more of? Oil. In 2003, McCain was one of only 6 Republican senators to vote against drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. For McCain, keeping America dependent on Middle Eastern oil is a small price to pay to make the caribou comfortable. He’s also the proud co-sponsor of McCain-Lieberman – a $660 billion monument to the myth of man-made global warming (an industry-killing cap on CO2 emissions), which would annihilate tens of thousands of American jobs and make us far less competitive. By what twisted logic does open borders, crippling U.S. industry and energy dependence equal national security?
4. Class Warfare – In the recent debate at the Reagan Library, McCain called Romney a “manager for profits” (would he prefer a businessman who managed for losses?) who has “laid people off” – thus demonstrating how little the Senator understands the market economy. Jobs aren’t permanent -- except for those who’ve served in the Senate for 21 years -- and sometimes they have to disappear so others can be created. In 2001, McCain was one of only two Republican Senators to vote against the Bush tax cuts. In 2003, he was one of only three. Now, he says it’s because there weren’t matching spending cuts. Then he called them “tax cuts for the rich.” This comes from a man who never held a private-sector job and made his money the old-fashioned way – by marrying an heiress whose father subsidized his early campaigns.
5. Abortion – McCain’s vaunted pro-life voting record reflects the views of his Arizona constituents more than any real commitment. He supports subsidies for embryonic stem-cell research. In 2000, he told the San Francisco Examiner that “certainly in the short term, even in the long-term I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade.” (He later reversed himself under pro-life pressure.) Most critics view McCain-Feingold as an assault on the First Amendment, which it certainly is. It’s also one of the most destructive anti-life measures ever enacted by Congress. Under this so-called Campaign Finance Reform, a pro-life group can’t run ads criticizing the record of a pro-abortion legislator within 60 days of a general election or 30 days of a primary. Needless to say, there’s no similar gag-rule for McCain’s buddies in the mainstream media. Elsewhere on the family-values front, McCain voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment. He says it’s because he wants states to decide the definition of marriage (the only instance in which he’s on record favoring federalism), which is the same as saying he wants activist judges to decide.
6. Judicial Nominations – Though McCain denies it, columnist Robert Novak swears the frontrunner told him prior to confirmation of Justice Samuel Alito that the nominee was too conservative, and that he preferred those who “didn’t wear their conservatism on their sleeve” (like Sandra Day O’Connor and Anthony Kennedy?). McCain was also part of the Gang of 14 which prevented a rules change that would have stopped unconstitutional filibusters on judicial nominations. Former New Hampshire Senator Warren Rudman was responsible for the Supreme Court nomination of David Souter -- the most disastrous Republican appointment since Earl Warren. (The play was Rudman to then-Chief of Staff John Sununu to Bush Sr.) Rudman has a prominent role in McCain’s campaign. Rudman could be President McCain’s Attorney General, giving him more say on judicial nominations than anyone other than the president. In his 1996 book, Rudman wrote that Christian conservatives include in their ranks “enough anti-abortion zealots, would-be censors, homophobes, bigots and latter-day Elmer Gantrys to discredit any party that is unwise enough” to align itself with them. With Warren Rudman at his side, it’s anyone’s guess whether McCain’s Supreme Court picks would be appreciably better than Clinton’s or Obama’s.
7. War on Terrorism – We’ve already noted McCain’s support for energy dependence and his crusade for open borders. (Besides all of the rapists, drug-dealers and gang members coming across our Southern border, terrorists are also infiltrating the United States due to the de facto surrender of national sovereignty.) McCain wants to close Guantanamo and give terrorists the same rights as enemy combatants. He opposes tough interrogation techniques that leave no scars, but have elicited the intelligence that has saved American lives. (Personally, I’d use thumbscrews and the iron maiden on this scum.) A McCain anti-terrorism policy is more likely to be shaped by his friends at the ACLU and The New York Times than by the Center for Security Policy.
8. McPsycho – McCain is famous for going postal on his Republican colleagues -- dropping the F-word, calling them f---ing idiots and worse. His dangerous inability to control his temper comes from a God-complex and an ingrained contempt for other human beings. One of his colleagues commented, “I don’t want this guy anywhere near a trigger.” Given his mental state, McCain could end up nuking Terre Haute instead of Tehran.
9. Reaching Across the Aisle – This is media-speak for a Republican sell-out who conspires with the left. McCain doesn’t reach across the aisle – he leaps. Former Senator Rick Santorum discloses: “The bottom line is that I served 12 years with him (McCain), 6 years in the United States Senate as a leader, one of the leaders of the Senate – the number-3 leader – who had the responsibility of trying to put together the conservative agenda, and at almost every turn on domestic policy, John McCain was not only against us, but leading the charge on the other side.” Republican presidents who are unsure of themselves too often try to placate the other party. For McCain, working with the left is his natural inclination. He’ll turn to the Kennedys, Feingolds and Liebermans not as a last resort, but as a first.
10. Rally or Roll-Over -- If a Democrat takes the oath of office next January, Congressional Republicans will find their principles again. From 1993 to 1995, without a majority in either House, Republicans fought Bill Clinton to a legislative standstill. They went on to win the House and Senate in the 1994 election -- for the first time in 40 years – and to hold both for a decade. If McCain is elected, it will be roll-over time for Congressional Republicans – on taxes, regulation, environmentalism, speech-suppression, internationalism, multiculturalism, civil liberties for terrorists and open-borders. (When it comes to arm-twisting, Captain Queeg would make Bush look like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.) This time, instead of losing power for a few years, the party could be permanently discredited.
Ultimately, all of this is academic. McCain’s chances of becoming the next president are none – and none. Since 1964, Republicans have won 7 of 10 presidential elections. They lost in 1976, 1992 and 1996. Each time, the party was saddled with a standard-bearer – Ford, Bush ’41, Dole – that a large part of the base couldn’t stand.
The American people are basically conservative. At some point, the Democrats always give away the game – expose themselves as the party of socialism, pacifism, racial-pandering and treason. They only win when Republicans sound an uncertain trumpet. McCain is a kazoo played by an asthmatic.
McCain is also old, abrasive and unlovable. (It was said of Bob Dole, another war hero, that he couldn’t sell beer on a troop ship. McCain couldn’t give it away.) Once the Democrats pick their nominee, McCain’s media cheerleaders will pack up their pompoms and move to the other side of the field.
President Bush – he of “compassionate conservatism,” mega-spending hikes and Hamas statehood– has just announced that John McCain is a “true conservative.”
I rest my case.

Let Fannie and Freddie FAIL!!!!
It was the singular achievement of Murray Rothbard's America's Great Depression to have demonstrated that the Great Depression was a crisis manufactured and prolonged by the attempts to stop an inevitable downturn. The policy response — creating more money, propping up prices, ginning up employment, and a host of other devices — took a stock-market price collapse and a banking liquidation and spread the mess throughout every sector of the economy. What might have lasted a year to 18 months instead lasted 16 years.
At the time, Ludwig von Mises tried to warn against intervention. See his Causes of the Economic Crisis. So did F.A. Hayek. See his Prices and Production. So did Lord Robbins. See his book The Great Depression.
And yet, that is not the conventional wisdom. The conventional wisdom is that the Depression was a natural disaster, a hurricane that swept through society that had to be fixed by the government. Another view, found in the work of the monetarists, is that it was caused by the failure of the government to create oceans of paper. This seems to be the view of Bernanke.

Joel Osteen Isn't a Christian
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
In this video Osteen denies Christ. He is a spineless coward and an enemy to the one true God.
John Hagee Stops Praying Jesus Name
By Rev. Ted Pike
To pray or not to pray in Jesus’ name — that question now confronts Christian evangelicals. Increasingly, Jewish activists demand that Jesus’ name go unmentioned in public prayers. They also insist that Christians not witness to Jews.
Some evangelicals give them what they want. Dr. John Hagee, passionate “Israel-first” televangelist, worked closely with the Jewish lobby to found Christians United for Israel (CUFI). CUFI’s purpose is to unite every evangelical across the nation to “speak and act with one voice in support of Israel .”
For three days in the Capitol last week, Hagee and an array of political and religious luminaries lavished praise on Israel and the Jewish people during Hagee’s 2nd Annual Israel/Washington, DC Summit. They did so while countless Americans agonized in prayer and concern over impending passage of Kennedy’s hate law amendment. Afterward, conference attendees walked the halls of Congress to lobby not against the hate bill but for Israel .
Oppressive “hate crime” laws, which evangelicals are beginning to realize will persecute them, were created by Jews–the Anti-Defamation League and B’nai B’rith International. (See, video Hate Laws: Making Criminals of Christians and www.adl.org/99hatecrime/intro.asp) The state of Israel ’s birth was midwifed by B’nai B’rith, the most powerful Jewish organization in the world during the last century. It claims to speak as “the voice of organized world Jewry.”
Zionism, the government of Israel, ADL/B’nai B’rith, and the global hate laws agenda all have one goal: a global bureaucracy run from Jerusalem which will make it a hate crime for any Gentile, Christian or Arab, to criticize Jews, matters Jewish, or the state of Israel . (See, Coming Jewish ‘Utopia’ Ruled by Noahide Laws)
CUFI’s executive director, David Brog, is a religiously conservative Jew and political liberal, hired by John Hagee, he is former chief of staff to Sen. Arlen Specter. Next to Sens. Kennedy and Smith, Specter is one of the Senate’s most ardent, long-term promoters of the federal “anti-hate” bill.
Brog’s personal assistant told me Brog headed Specter’s staff from about 2000 to 2004. During that period, the hate bill came before Congress three times. Specter and Brog did their utmost to pass it, attempting to shackle America under a hate crimes bureaucracy like in Canada , ending free speech.
Featured speaker Sen. Joe Lieberman, also a veteran hate bill promoter, was honored last week at Hagee’s gala. Lieberman and fellow Jewish activist Carl Levin co-sponsored the infamous Sec. 220 of the Lobby Reform Bill, which incited outrage from Christian conservatives this winter. Rejected by the Senate, Sec. 220 would have restricted Americans’ right of petition and grassroots activism. It would have imposed oppressive reporting and accountability requirements on small conservative lobbying organizations. Penalty for not satisfying Levin and Lieberman’s onerous requirements: $100,000 fine.
Hagee’s Apostasy
While Hagee praised the names of Jews and Israel for three days last week, the name of Jesus was discouraged by CUFI policy. This restriction is on all CUFI’s “Nights to Honor Israel ” which are held in 50 states. When invited to address the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) last year, Hagee assured his hosts that his appearance would be “non-conversionary” (non-evangelical).
Speaking for Hagee as well as himself, David Brog says: “All activities of CUFI are strictly non-conversionary. Christians who work with Jews in supporting Israel realize how sensitive we are in talking about conversion and talking about Jesus. So those who work with us tend not to talk about Jesus more, but talk about Jesus less. They realize it will interfere with what they are trying to do — building a bridge to the Jewish community to ensure the survival of Judeo-Christian Civilization.” 1
Hagee benefits from a burgeoning evangelical heresy: Jews have their own covenant with God; they are so divinely favored, even good, that they do not need Jesus for salvation.
Jesus taught the opposite. He said His name should be proclaimed “to all nations.” (Matt. 28:19) The New Testament hardly exempts Jews from need of the gospel. Instead, it instructs Christians to witness “to the Jew first” and then the Gentile (Romans 2:10 ).
Hundreds of times during CUFI’s recent three-day Washington conference, Hagee and his speakers praised the names of those who created hate laws and the name of the nation that is the primary cause of Mid-East strife. There was no public praise of the name of the One who, coming out of eternity, died in agony on the cross for Hagee’s sins. Clearly, CUFI is an abomination to God, as it is dedicated to public praise, honor, and glory to persecutive, anti-Christ Israel and not to Christ. (See, Christians in Israel: An Endangered Species)
Hagee’s is a monstrous sin against Jesus, His Holy Spirit, and, tragically, against the eternal souls of Jews. The word “apostate” (”apostasis” in Greek) describes a backslidden Christian who now prefers the approval of man and stands apart from Jesus and the reproach of His name. The New Testament prophesies that in the latter days there will occur a great “falling away” as former Christians deny Christ’s name to please unbelievers (2 Thess. 2:3).
Two thousand years ago the Pharisees demanded that the apostles not “talk about Jesus.” The disciples refused and were thrown in prison and flogged. (Acts 4:3, 5:40 )
In contrast, Hagee gives “the synagogue of Satan” (Rev. 3:9) exactly what it demands. He promises not to mention the name of Jesus among them. As a result, evil Jewish leaders exalt him.
Hagee boasts that he received the ‘Humanitarian of the Year’ award from B’nai B’rith. “It was the first time in the history of San Antonio ,” his website crows, “that it has been given to a Gentile … Dr. Hagee has received numerous honors and accolades from national Jewish organizations for his unwavering support of Israel .”
Hagee has abandoned his Christian duty of moral criticism in love. Instead, he flatters and unquestioningly supports one of the world’s most boldly oppressive regimes. (See, The Simple Explanation for Mid-East Strife and video Why The Mid-East Bleeds) Since he praises and receives honor from those who create hate laws, is it any wonder that his huge ministry did not significantly warn against Kennedy’s hate bill last week?
But some Christians still deserve the name. Like their apostolic forbears, they now endure persecution from the Jews.
In high profile are Navy Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt and 68 Navy chaplains suing the Navy for forbidding their use of Jesus’ name in public prayers. Klingenschmitt has been court-martialed for praying in Jesus’ name in front of the White House, expelled from the military, and stripped of his military pension.
His conviction is entirely a result of Jewish anti-Christian activism. Jewish activist Mikey Weinstein sued the Air Force Academy and was successful in banning public prayers in Jesus’ name. Rabbi Arnold Resnicoff, chief ethical consultant to the Air Force and Navy, played the predominant role in upholding Weinstein’s victory. Previously, Resnicoff had been instrumental in banning the use of Jesus’ name in public prayers by Navy chaplains. (See, Correction: Speech at Air Force Academy Not Free)
Why is the name of Jesus so hated by Jewish activists?
It’s an old story. In the book of Acts, the Pharisees forbade preaching in Jesus’ name because it focused blame on them for masterminding the crucifixion. Today the physical and spiritual descendants of the Pharisees object for similar reasons: The name of Jesus stands for a real Person whose identity as Son of God and Israel ’s Messiah they find abhorrent.
The name of Jesus, like our own names, refers to His identity. Our names represent our character and life record. The name Jesus (Yeshua) signifies that He is the Creator of all things and Deliverer of those who trust in Him. He is also the great lover of mankind, both Jew and Gentile, having endured an excruciating death so all who trust in His name can be saved. (Acts 4:12 )
This raises indicting questions of Jews: Why did your forefathers crucify Him? Why do you continue to reject Him and revive New Testament persecutions against His followers? (See, ADL Sets Up ‘Philly 11′ Christians)
Jewish activists have no problem with Christian chaplains or high school graduates praying in the name of “God.” That word is non-specific, non-incriminating. “God” can be a universal world force, a cow or monkey, even ourselves. Such Jews also don’t mind the use of “Jesus” as profanity, which levels Him to gutter language. Yet when Jesus’ name is spoken reverently in public prayer, they protest loudly. Their “civil liberties,” they scream, are being violated!
Hagee’s mega-flattery of Israel and omission of the name of Christ finds no precedent in Scripture. In the Old Testament, the Hebrews gathered for lengthy festivals of praise but to God, not themselves. Most of the time, even when Israel was moderately obedient (as in the exodus), God describes Israel as an unusually stiff-necked and rebellious people (Ex. 27:9, 33:3).
In the New Testament, the Jews, having coerced the Romans to crucify their Messiah, are even less worthy of praise. Do the words of St. Paul indicate that, if he were alive today, he would have joined Hagee, Liebermann, and over 4000 evangelicals in Washington last week, whooping it up in praise of Israel ?
“The Jews… killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and drove us out. They are not pleasing to God but hostile to all men, hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved, with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come on them to the uttermost.” (2 Thess. 2:16)
St. Paul would have come toward Hagee for only one purpose: to rebuke him. Otherwise, he and New Testament Christians would have shunned him as a heretic.
So should you.
John Hagee ISN'T a Christian!!
1 John 2:22 Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist—he denies the Father and the Son. 23No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
Some people reading might say what right do I have to judge Hagee or his intentions, I'm sure Matthew 1 will inevitable be brought up because people fail to see the meaning of the verse although that is subject for another discussion entirely. The Bible wants us to judge good and evil especially within the church as made clear in the following verses.
Malachi 3:18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
Isaiah 59:8: "The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace." People have refused to judge, so there is no peace.

Obama's Pastor Wright Has an Affair With a Married Woman
Barack Obama’s former pastor has been cavorting with another man’s wife, whom he romanced while she worked at a church in Dallas run by one of his disciples, according to a report in the New York Post.
Elizabeth Payne, 37, told the Post that she and Rev. Jeremiah Wright, 67, had a sexual relationship this year and that she was fired from her job when the affair was made public. Payne had been working at Friendship-West Baptist Church as a secretary to the Rev. Frederick Haynes III, a longtime Wright protege.
“I was involved with Rev. Wright, and that’s why I lost my job and why my husband divorced me,” Payne was quoted saying in Tuesday’s newspaper. She said she has filed a wrongful-dismissal claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
According to Payne’s estranged husband, Fred Payne, 64, Wright e-mailed Elizabeth Payne and told her he was going to leave his wife, Ramah, for her.
Wright married Ramah more than 20 years ago after he unsuccessfully provided marriage counseling for her and her former husband.
Fred Payne said members of the church, including Haynes, would not be pleased about the interracial aspect of the relationship.
“People wouldn’t be happy to know that my wife was sleeping with a black man,” he said.

Sarah Palin Enemy of the Taxpayer
"In 2000, Sarah Palin, as mayor of the Alaskan town of Wasilla, hired a Washington lobbyist to secure federal earmarks for her community.
This is not totally atypical in her state. Alaska’s government receives more money per capita in federal earmark money than any other state, despite being the only state in the union with no income tax and no sales tax. They fund their government primarily with petroleum money, and recently distributed oil profits to its citizens in the form of rebate checks. "
Full Story 2
"The governor didn't show the same discipline with the operating budget, though. She let that $6.6 billion of spending slide through unscathed (the largest in Alaskas history), even though months earlier she said she'd seek $150 million in budget cuts." __________________
